Precious Memories in Print !

As most of you know, I came from small town roots, and one of my most precious memories is getting to be able to go to  Eau Claire every summer for vacation, and occasionally lucky enough to get there for Christmas.  One of those memories that is crystal clear is my cousin Jan and I heading to Stangie’s Grocery store for penny candy every day.

I had a very sweet woman named Lori Schmidt of Evergreen Graphics find my blog.  She emailed me and asked me to give her a call and see if I would be interested in being in a little magazine called Chippewa Valley’s Hidden Treasures.  I called her and it was like we knew each other for years, in fact when I go back later this spring to Eau Claire we are going to get together…but I digress…. she asked me to write down a few paragraphs about Stangie’s and his store and my memories and told me she would have a writer get it in shape for an article.  I sent her an email and hoped she liked it.  Well, I guess she did, because she changed a few grammatical errors and printed as I wrote it….so, come on back in time with me and think of your favorite childhood candy….

Thanks for all of the interest in being getting published….I know it is nothing huge, but for me to have these memories in print is so wonderful!  Thank you Lori and I hope to meet you soon!

A Wonderful Spring Time Idea

Sorry I haven’t been posting…I have been working on a family tree and I am now making a book  for someone as a gift.  Lots of hours and lots of fun!

I did get some goodies in the mail, I saw these and just loved them and the idea behind them.  I thought I could do this, but in reality I never would…I am sure I have a bunch of these that I have bought at different times for different projects, or I just gave the whole lot to Goodwill…but you might like to keep your eyes open….

Wonderful Easter/Spring candleholders!  We all have seen hundreds of these thru the years at the thrift stores….but I added up the gas, the time, the candlesticks, and the spray paint and thought…nope, just going to buy them…LOL

This picture was taken by the Etsy seller….I didn’t get the big pink one on the end….she has more for sale…..

Even pretty wood ones…..

Just look up Mandolin Goose on Etsy, I think mine will be going on my patio.  I will be back shortly, I have about two more days on the book and then someone to proof it all….oh, and guess what?  I was published!  More on that later….have a great week!

Thanks for stopping by….:)

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

I have a had a great week!  I started a new drug ( Cimzia) for my RA and it is working wonders!  No pain…..period!  Energy like I haven’t had it a year or better and feeling much less depressed, it is amazing how constant pain can mess with you…..plus this is an injection I can take in my own home, no more two and half hour infusions!  Yeah!

As most of you know I collect vintage children’s story books and paper dolls, I have been looking for one for quite some time called Dolls from Storyland, it is from the 1940’s and made by Merrill.

I found this on EBay and was so surprised at the mint condition!

$(KGrHqYOKp0E6YyeCV52BPMcgziPKg~~60_12

No wrinkles, bends, nothing!  Couldn’t wait to see it…..this I show it showed up……UGLY, and BAD!

The back cover…..

The cutout doll……

IMG_0730

Totally ruined!  The seller apparently did not know that you do not put items like this thru the mail without cardboard or a box……I was so angry!  An item that had lasted all these years, ruined…..I asked for a refund and they gave it, but it was still upsetting as I am still on the hunt not for the book…..FYI…ALWAYS sandwich expensive vintage ephemera of any kind in heavy heavy cardboard,  or better yet, a box….or this is what happens when the USPS machines get ahold of it…..

Now the Good……:)

I went to an antique store the other day after reading Meri’s post….lol… and I found some sweet items!  I am going to be opening up an online store later this year called Broadway and Fifth, after the candy store I adored as a child…so I am trying to find good buys on fun items to resell…..

A few though, are staying with me! :)

A wonderful old rolling pin, and a jar full of vintage coffee scoops!  I will be selling most of the scoops….

IMG_0733

IMG_0734

Some great embroidery patterns…..I love the Mexican motif ones, I might just try them on dish towels…..

IMG_0735

And a set of cross-stitch roosters I though were old….but look at the Target price tag!  Still from a while back ….

IMG_0736

IMG_0736

Some really fun vintage children’s clothespins in translucent colors….

IMG_0740

And my favorite piece……

Ta-Da!  I have been looking for one of these for a long time also, and never could fine one in decent shape….this one is GREAT!

IMG_0737

Love the graphics and the wood wheels…it isn’t as musical as it once had been but still wonderful!

IMG_0738

IMG_0739

So all in all things are looking up…..it took quite some time but today is a great day!  Thanks for stopping by….

UPDATE:

Spoke with Viv , and I am going to be doing the Easter Swap, it will be a one on one swap and I will have details in the next week….so if you want to join keep it in mind, but please DO NOT leave a message here, email me at sanjos333@yahoo.com or leave a comment on the swap post which will be coming next week….:)  Thanks!

This Blog Interrupted for the Following Message….

NOTICE

As you’ve probably heard, the popular Google Friend Connect (“GFC”) is going away March 1st for non-Google blog platforms like WordPress, and the scuttlebutt is that it will be eventually phased out completely to be replaced by Google+. GFC was never really so much an “I follow this blog” tool as it was an attempt at the whole Facebook “friend, like” concept.

Bloggers need a good “follower” tool and one that is not tied to a million other services (seems like Facebook, Twitter and Google are linked to everything else on the Internet). It needs to be simple, fast, easy-to-use and reliable.

Introducing LINKY FOLLOWERS(www.linkyfollowers.com)

The inevitable question: can your GFC followers be automatically moved over? NO. Google won’t allow access to those accounts (the part you need like email addresses) but more importantly, YOU really shouldn’t sign up someone to a new service. They should voluntarily sign up themselves. You’ll need to ask your GFC folks (and all your blog readers) to follow you using Linky Followers - its easy, quick and did I mention, FREE? They’ll love the tool. It’s a cool way to organize and follow the blogs you love.

You can get started by clicking LINKY FOLLOWERS over on the left side of this blog where the Linky Followers widget is displayed, or by visiting: www.linkyfollowers.com  Thanks Sue for showing this first! :)

Kiba and Jamie are a very bonded pair of purebred English pointers whose own is no longer able to care for them. We are helping her find a new home (or homes) for these two beautiful, charming dogs. Ideally, we would love for them to go to the same home, but we understand this may not be possible. Please read their bios and contact us if you have any questions about either dog, the adoption process, etc. Thank you! ♥
_____________________________________________________________________
Jamie is a 4 year old purebred spayed female English pointer with beautiful liver/white markings. She is sweet natured, can be a little shy at first, but is a very affectionate dog. Jamie loves to "talk" but only barks to alert you when she sees something out of the ordinary. She has lived primarily as an indoor dog, but loves being outdoors. Jamie is gun shy and afraid of loud noises, so although she enjoys being out in the field, she is not hunting material. She weighs about 40 lbs.
Jamie is good with other dogs, has been great around children over 6 years (unsure about younger ones), and she hasn't been around cats so we don't know if she'd be okay with them or not. She walks nicely on a leash, once his initial excitement about going on an outing wears off. Like any young pointer, Jamie requires a lot of physical and mental exercise so that she doesn't become bored.
Jamie has seasonal allergies for which she takes 2 Beneryl per day and receives an allergy shot every few months. She takes her medications very nicely, with no issues at all.
_____________________________________________________________________
Kiba is a 3 year old purebred neutered male English pointer with classic lemon/white markings. He weighs about 55 lbs. and is loving, affectionate, and very people focused dog who knows "come," "sit," and "stay," in addition to being housebroken with or without a doggie door. Kiba has been snake broken, but hasn't been hunted. He has primarily been an indoor dog, loves being in the great outdoors, and has a lot of natural point so he may be hunting material with a little work. Kiba is good with other dogs, has been great around children over 6 years (unsure about younger ones), and he hasn't been around cats so we don't know if he'd be okay with them or not. He walks nicely on a leash, once his initial excitement about going on an outing wears off.
Like any young pointer, Kiba requires a lot of physical and mental exercise and is prone to digging in the yard if he is bored. You can see from the photo of him, he points!!!!!  Would make a great bird hunting dog.

Both dogs are healthy, spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all vaccines, and will be micro-chipped prior to being placed in their new home(s). If you are interested in meeting Kiba or Jamie, please contact us at arizonabirddogresscue@gmail.com or visit our website at www.arizonabirddogrescue.org

This is a beautiful pair of English Pointers….they were bred at one time, don’t know if it was a mistake, but a friend of my son’s owns one of the pups and she is a wonderful dog!  This is a no kill shelter, but they can only take so many dogs, they also have Willow, who was a dog my son tried to keep….I am praying that someone will see this and find them their forever home, apart or together…..thank you my friends!

I just really  like the ones with the cutouts in the tables….and I am sure we cannot get those remade…unless we are really rich! LOL

Here is a site that makes all of our dreams come true, they are in West Virginia and even make custom countertops….

This was so much fun, finding all of these sites…  It would be hard to pick for sure, but if I could I would like an older set, just because they were built so well back then.  So, leave me a comment and let me know which one would fit in your kitchen! :)

A Very Nice Valentines Day

I wanted to share the wonderful time I had with some of my best friends, their Mom and a neighbor yesterday.  Everyone said you have to take photos of the table, so we did….with no one sitting at it! LOL

This was such a nice day for me, my hubby had to work until almost midnight so sharing the day with some of my favorite people was just perfect!

I made some goodies for them to take….

IMG_0705

I made these banners out of Valentine doilies and printed off some of my vintage children’s cards…..added a few button and baubles, and used a twine that was pink, white and red.

IMG_0707

IMG_0708

IMG_0709

I had goodies bags for when they left, filled with all kinds of stuff!

IMG_0701

And I made little place card candy cups with their names on them….IMG_0710

And of course we had to have red heart straws for out drinks!

IMG_0704

Here is a shot of the table…

IMG_0714

I found vintage inspired paper plates and napkins at Hobby Lobby, and for some reason I needed to use red plastic utensils….and my Boopie Glass red goblets.  The tablecloth came from Wal-Mart.

We had a menu of different sandwich fixings and  side dishes that helped us think of our Mom’s or Grandmas…. we had deviled eggs, pasta salad, Lu-Lu Sauce with potato chips ( something I had never heard of and loved!), and crab salad.

IMG_0714 - Copy

I made a vintage frozen fruit salad that I put in these molds….

IMG_0720

Here is what it came out like, and it was yummy!!!!!

IMG_0719

It had cream cheese, sugar, cool whip, frozen strawberries, crushed pineapple and sliced bananas, it was a hit!

And of course red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting for desert.

One of my guest was my dear friend Meri Wiley, of http://imagimeris.blogspot.com/.

she always comes with wonderful goodies anytime she comes by, and she had a belated birthday gift that I just adore!!!!!!

IMG_0722

This sweet little cow ( I think) do cows have horns?  LOL was made into an adorable pin cushion….

IMG_0723

And of course all cows need to wear a bell, and mine has a sweet pink gingham ribbon and baubles! Only Meri could have seen this when she bought this sweet piece of vintage life.

And look at my handmade card!!!!!!

IMG_0724

Perfection!!!!!!  Thank you Meri for thinking of me!

Meri also brought sweet Valentines for all of us in her wonderful “Imagimeri “ style…..

IMG_0715

Meri’s sister Linnie and I have been friend since our junior years in high school and she brought me a wonderful little box for Valentines day and a package of …..strawberry flavored peeps dipped in dark chocolate!

Lets just say that once we tried the peeps ( I am a Peep fanatic if you are new to my blog), we decided they need to quit being so inventive! LOL

All in all a great day with people I love and care for…..hope everyone had as good a day as I did….thanks for stopping by…..
