The Best of Intentions

I have had the best intentions with my craft room….it was going to be everything I needed….but this is the third time in over a year I am totally moving everything around!!!!! It was so cute…

Room1

Room10

Room 11

but I just couldn’t get it to work!

I have tried numerous formats…..

Room 8

numerous pieces of furniture…

IMG_1292

added another table and got rid of the computer hutch….

IMG_2053

revamped the drawers and cubbies…

IMG_2054

put the plastic drawers on this table, it works better here…

IMG_2063

But this is what it looks like most days!!!!!! ( warning…ugly)

IMG_2602

stuff everywhere and no place to work! So right now this is how it goes…..

IMG_2601 I have moved all of the paper to one table…..still don’t like how it looks, but I cannot buy anything else…I have to make what I have work!

IMG_2604

Clutter…clutter…clutter

IMG_2603

I can’t believe I am showing you all this…..but I need some help!

Things I know:

1. TOO MUCH STUFF !!!!! Meri, Come on by, we are going to give you some more stuff!

2. No closet….a room 10’ by 10’ and no closet…..do I need to take over the only other closet in the house in the guestroom for seasonal things and such? It is a small one, but I cannot use our master bedroom closet….too far away and I would forget what is there…..there is no money right now for more vertical help, shelves, etc….so can you help me work with what I have????? I am at such a loss. I am so blessed to have all of this and yet it brings me down! This is really not good….shame on me! If I could just get a few good ideas…I know I could do better here with this room.

3. I LOVE scrapbook paper. I am a paper hoarder…..no doubt! Joyce, we need to start a group to help people like us! LOL Now that there is no extra funds, that ironically will help this problem…so this problem is basically alleviated right now.

4. I don’t do “organized”well at all…..is there a group for that????? :):) Seriously, my best friend Cheri just rolls her eyes, she comes over here and helps me clean and organize the same areas over and over, good thing she loves me! :):)

So…..my friends out there in blogland, help please…….

Well, I am no help. I seem to have stuff everywhere just because I don't even have a 10x10 room. Looks great to me. Hugs, Marty

Even if it's not working for you right now, it's still so darn cute, Sandy! It looks to me like you might have everything you need, but just a different way of storing it all. I know you don't want to spend any money on anything, but what about if you could find an old armoire at a garage sale, really cheap, that you could paint and cute-ify, and then you could put lots of stuff in it and shut the doors on it so that you wouldn't have to see it all? Again, I think it's really cute, and it may look cluttered to you, but to me it looks like a place where some really great things are created!

Carol

Sandy, it still looks cute! Carol's idea about an armoire is a good one. I see quite a bit of blank wall space so maybe some shelves (again garage or estate sales) could get some of the things up off the floor. Or even put your cute little red metal table on top of another table, put your printer on top of one of those drawer units, put a drawer unit under your lamp?? Just a few ideas to think about but it will still have some clutter because you are creating. If everything is in "it's place" you can't use it!!
Please show us what you decide and don't let it bring you down.

The only suggestion I have is to go up. When you have some extra cash buy shelves (maybe have a garage sale and put the money towards shelves) and surround the room. Put the seasonal stuff up there...well marked in bins or baskets. If you went right round the room a foot down from the ceiling you would have another 40 square feet of storage. Make sure you have a folding ladder in the room so you easily can put things back up there or they will just end up staying down.

Sandy,
I think it is just adorable. I cannot tell you how much more organized you are than I am!

Hi Sandy! How wonderful to have a room to play in! Now I've always heard it said a creative person needs to make a mess! I love it! :)
Be a sweetie,
shelia ;)

No help from this end.
I organize and organize and it still looks cluttered and messy - simply because it is cluttered and messy.
I keep attempting to use up all my scraps and I buy things to organize.
Gad, I can not keep it looking picture perfect.
Good Luck in your attempt. :^)

Hugs,
Gerry

It does look great to me! My crafting stuff is on tables in the family room and in a room off of the family room. Some day I'll have a real craft room like yours!!! I "create" the same way..stuff all over..no help from me.
warmly,
deb

Hi, Sandy! I love your red cart and table so much!

If I were you, I'd go digging around for something that you could use for shelves. I've used boxes, milk crates, etc because I usually don't have any money to work with or if I do, I want to spend it on something much less practical! :) I also have a table cloth over one of my craft tables and I hide boxes of stuff under there and I have a vintage linen over a ratty looking shelf and hid practical yet not pretty things in there...

Maybe take one box of stuff out that won't be used soon and let it live somewhere else.

Don't give up! You're doing great! ♥

Love all the suggestions...now are you ready...

Since you claim to be a hoarder...lol...you must get rid of allllll your stuff. So in the interest of goodwill..I will take it all..little red table..ect...you will feel so much better with an empty room...

Just joking girlfriend..I always loved your room as it was..it was darling...but I know the room has to have good flow..and good function. So hang in there you can do it!!

Hugs and lovin...Cindy from Rick-Rack and Gingham

Oh my gosh! I would just love to have the space you have!! It is BEAUTIFUL! But I do understand. I have a box that I clear off the work table into so I can work and clutter things up again...I need a bigger box! LOL!

I think you, in an effort to organize, have gotten too much furnature. Stick with one table, start working on a project and see how you would naturally like to move. The first picture is cute, but I understand how that isn't always usable. Maybe put your paper on shelves where you can see it all and not in drawers. You could also paint the white office furniture. Hope I was some help! Try to have fun doing it, like a puzzle!
Hugs, Lisa

Yeah - I'm not the only one who can't keep the craft room clean! And, I have enough room - so what's my problem! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one. I organize and then can't remember where I put what I organized! I have to see it, so it ends up on my workspace, too. I'm going to have to come back and read more of the great ideas you are getting!

Sandy, I would skirt those table and then put the stuff you don't use everyday underneath. Take some of your paper that you are saving and make some cute tags for your organizers. I have a big school cupboard that I keep most of my excess in and then the rest goes into bins in the garage.

It's adorable. Garage sale? Let me know!

It's not clutter--it's future potential brilliant ideas-in-waiting.

At least that's what I tell my husband

Sandy, first of all, be grateful that you have a whole room just for crafts! Second, don't worry about what it looks like - it's not a living room to entertain guests in. This room is for YOU, for your personal creativity, so it doesn't matter if it's cluttered or neat as a pin. Seriously, how many creative people can honestly say that they keep their craft area is spic and span?

Now, my "craft room" (as I've mentioned before)is shared with the washer/dryer, food pantry shelves, computer, litter box, and seed starting/plant stuff. Within the past few months I gave up on having a picture-perfect room - I find it impossible and so frustrating that I just keep it semi-picked up now. And it's a big load off my mind!

Good luck with which ever way you get (or don't get) organized!

I'll come to AZ to help you fix yours if you come to UT and help me fix mine! I have the same problem...I have a huge craft room and end up on the kitchen table...I have promised myself I won't buy anything else, just use what I have and I have been selling stuff...brand new stuff that has never been used...then I will buy what I need, do the project and not let myself buy anything until I've finished the project...good luck girl...I feel hopeless like you right now!

I think your craft room looks fine. I posted photos of my craft area on my blog and then found out it didn't "work for me" either so I changed the furniture around. I have a closet stuffed fill (and that was after cleaning it out). I would like to get rid of more stuff in my closet so I can put shelves up in there to store all the craft stuff. If I work on a project my area is very messy. I'm going to set up one of my craft tables with a scanning and computer to use for sorting through all of our photos to organize them..someday. I'm sure you will find an arrangement that will work for you. I love your red table!

Sandy~ I sure do wish I could be of help... but here I sit and when I look around my Studio looks very much the same, I know we need a lot of special treasures to get creative with... but where do we store it all and when you start a project it's like an explosion! I will check back on your progress. Hugs, Diane

Sandy,
I so hear where you are are. I too am super lucky to have what I do and a room to have it all in. My husband is wonderful and my kids think I am crazy. my friend comes to my rescue and we organize and redo often. just when you think it will work forever, all flat surfaces are COVERED! Yikes. Redo again. believe me, I understand. Here is what I found works best for me and crafting in my room. line the walls with your supplies and have a table in the center of the room. This table must be a sacred place to work and then cleaned up when the project is over. Only keep that project's supplies on it while you are working. Hope that helps. I can post some photos of my room for you to feel better about yours. Good Luck!

Oh I love to scrap and the one tiny closet I have looks so bad I could never show it! :)

I can't remember if I contacted you regarding the bloggers tea that I am organizing for March 26th. All of the details are on my current blog post.

Please feel free to grab the button to help spread the word.

It should be a very fun event and I hope that you can make it.
